FoodShare

You’ve probably heard of food stamps or SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). In Wisconsin, we call the program FoodShare. The goal of this program is to stop hunger.

Other nutrition supports

DHS and other state agencies administer a number of other nutrition assistance programs.

 Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC)

Provides nutrition benefits for mothers and young children.

 The Emergency Food Assistance Program

Provides food to low-income households.

 Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations

Provides USDA foods to income-eligible households on Indian reservations and to Native American households living in designated areas near reservations.

 Commodity Supplemental Food Program

Provides free monthly food packages to low-income adults 60 years or older.

 Free and Reduced School Meals

Provides free and reduced price meals to children enrolled in participating schools. FoodShare automatically qualifies children for school meals.

 Summer Food Service Program

Provides free, healthy meals and snacks to children and teens in low-income areas during the summer.
